The Meynell Cricket Club
The Newborough and Hoar Cross Cricket Club, known as The Meynell Cricket Club, or the Mighty MCC, has been playing on the outskirts of the village since the 1950’s.
We like to win, but this is English village cricket. Win, lose or draw, we will still have enough energy in our throwing arm to raise a few well-earned pints in the Red Lion after the game, and discuss the dropped catches and runs we almost made! If you thought fishermen could spin a yarn about the “one that got away” you’ll be amazed at the tales our players can tell about “strange bounces” and “balls that moved in the air” or “It was going over 100 mph when I nearly caught it”.
The MCC is a family club. We welcome people of all ages and we are also proud to have several Ladies amongst our players. Children are always welcome and we hope to start a junior practice session as soon as the new practice nets have been erected. We hold regular family events, and adult dance nights.
If you fancy a game, please contact our Club Captain Mr Paul Sullivan on 07958 185698. Or if you would like to wander along and sit and watch Village cricket as it used to be, you and your families will be more than welcome. Oh, and don't forget to bring your Pimms and a picnic to keep you going until the Red Lion opens!
